Life's a Pleasure Beach at VBTV with Facilis TerraBlock
Virginia Beach TV Relies on Facilis Shared Storage Systems to Produce Variety of Programs for the City of Virginia Beach
HUDSON, MA (January 12th, 2017) – Facilis, a leading international supplier of cost-effective, high performance shared storage systems and dynamic workflow solutions for the film, broadcast and AV markets today announced that Virginia Beach TV (VBTV) is relying on Facilis shared storage systems to manage hours of weekly programming it produces for the City of Virginia Beach, VA.
Located at the southeastern corner of Virginia on the Atlantic Ocean, Virginia Beach is famous for having the world's longest stretch of pleasure beach in the world. To help promote community awareness and understanding of municipal and public school system issues, as well as inform and educate, the City of Virginia Beach has its own TV Channel, VBTV.
Every week, the Multimedia Services team at VBTV produces hours of original long and short form content, including official city and school news items, public service videos, continuing education series, and live broadcasts and replays of public meetings. The programming is broadcast on local cable channels and is also made available on VBTV's Youtube channel and other social media outlets.
With so much varied content produced every week, VBTV needed to find a solid shared storage system so that their team of 6 editors could store, manage, search and share content. Working with local systems integrator and Facilis reseller, Digital Video Group, VBTV's multimedia services now relies on two TerraBlock systems from Facilis: one with 24 TB and an additional system with 96 TB of shared storage capacity.
"VBTV used to rely on stand alone local storage for each of the editors' workstations, but it was an inefficient process, so we advised them to move to a shared editing environment. We recommended the Facilis TerraBlock shared storage system because it is solid as a rock and affordable. Today, the TerraBlocks play an integral role in VBTV's creation of weekly programming for the town," explains John Heinke Vice President at Digital Video Group.
VBTV's production team typically shoots in a variety of formats, using a host of different cameras, from Panasonic P2s, Sony 4K to GoPros and a wide range of field camera gear. They also have a production truck for multi camera shoots, high school graduations, and live streaming remote productions. Their six editing suites running Adobe Creative Cloud apps are all connected to the Facilis TerraBlocks.
Using TerraBlock's shared file system, VBTV 's Multimedia Services team is able to easily create separate volumes for their city and school news, public meeting broadcasts, and other types of programming and their TerraBlocks not only combine performance and affordability but also include dual connectivity to both Fibre Channel as well as Ethernet.
