Facilis FASTCache FAQ
What types of workstations can use FastCache?
Any workstation running a compatible version of Mac and Windows OS.
What kind of cache drive do I need?
It’s recommended to use a solid state drive, like SSD or NVME M.2. Because of the way FastCache writes partial files, it’s not recommended to use a HDD (mechanical spinning disk) storage. If external, the drive should be connected through USB3 or Thunderbolt for the best performance.
What additional software do I need?
If you’re already using the Facilis HUB Client Console, that’s all you need.
What's the license cost?
At this time there is no cost for licensing FastCache. Owning a Facilis server with a support contract and upgrading to version 8.3 is the only requirement.
What is the minimum internet speed I need to use FastCache?
There is no minimum speed, but caching data requires that you can at least read it, and caching large amounts of data may take a while on a very slow connection.
How large should my cache volume be?
If you’re looking to overcome fast but inconsistent network speeds, a small cache of 250-500GB may work. If you’re looking to pre-cache an entire project, the cache drive must be larger.
Is there a limit to the size of the cache volume I can use?
There is no limit to the size of the cache volume on the client workstation.
Will the cached data still be there after I reboot or log off?
Yes, the cache is not volatile and will still be usable after a reboot, but you must be connected to the server with the volume mounted in order to use the cached data.
Can I access the cached data directly?
The cached data is not accessible directly. It is encrypted and not usable without the Facilis volume mounted to the client workstation.
